Daniel Otero Torres
Echoes of the Earth

Echoes of the Earth, an installation by Colombian artist Daniel Otero Torres, presented at the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale 2026, reflects on environmental protection, collective memory, and the resilience of rural communities.
Constructed from natural and industrial materials—including wood, steel, clay, water, textile, and sound—the installation unfolds as a sculptural landscape. Totemic monuments emerge throughout the space, serving as symbolic tributes to environmental defenders who have safeguarded land and ecosystems despite social and political challenges.
Subtle soundscapes and spatial movement guide visitors through the environment, encouraging an embodied experience shaped by remembrance, resistance, and shared responsibility. Rather than presenting nature as a distant subject, the work situates audiences within an active dialogue between humanity, territory, and ecological preservation.
Commissioned by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation for the 2026 edition, Echoes of the Earth highlights art’s role as a platform for amplifying marginalized voices and fostering awareness of environmental justice across cultures and generations.
